A study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that not only are women more likely to experience mental health concerns such as depression or anxiety, women also experience mental distress at higher rates than men do in all age brackets. There was a myth that the hippocampus—the part of the brain partially responsible for regulating emotion and memory—was larger in women than in men. Come to find out, that was wrong! Unfortunately, the stereotype that women are more emotionally expressive and have better memory is one that women continue to fight against.
